What Doesn't Happen in a Fitting Room

Trying on clothes is the easy part. What doesn’t happen in the dressing room is clarity, confidence, and connection. Those come from understanding yourself.

The real decision happens later—in the pause, in the feeling, in the question of how do I want to show up in the world today?

It typically happens just before you leave the house, when you're wondering if what you’re wearing really feels like you.

That moment came for this member of The Style by Color Studio recently as she considered four different shoes.

Each one worked.

Each one told a slightly different story.

But none of them felt like an obvious yes.

The first look is a dark plum top layered under a boucle jacket and paired with jeans and burgundy loafers. It's a stylish outfit that includes rolled cuffs, a trending detail. However, something didn't feel quite right so she swapped out the loafers...

for black, flat sling backs. They are a reasonable and trendy choice but she decided to try another strong contender:

Black, lug-soled slip-ons. Even though they look great with her jeans, she wasn't confident in those so she put on an alternative black shoe.

After donning a pair of black booties and posting her pictures in the Style by Color Studio Facebook group, she considered the suggestions made by group members (and Certified Style by Color Consultants)...

and realized it wasn't the shoes; it was her clothing!

"When I put on this cropped black jacket with the silver buttons and my wide leg cords, I felt much more comfortable." The burgundy loafers made the cut once she realized her best look required a change to the choices she was overlooking while trying to solve her style challenge.

We often think style should come naturally, as if confident women never question their choices. But the truth is, style is refined through curiosity, reflection, and safe conversation.

When we are given space to try ideas out loud—to say “I like this, but I’m not sure if it works...”—something powerful happens: decisions feel easier and style stops feeling less like pressure and more like play.

The Style by Color Studio

One of the most beautiful parts of this process is when women can show up for one another—with encouragement, thoughtful insight, and genuine care.

No tearing down.
No second-guessing your worth.
Just honest observations offered with kindness.

Finding that kind of support in a comfortable environment with a sense of safety matters. Because when a woman feels supported, she’s far more willing to step into something new, and far more likely to walk away feeling stronger than when she started.

That's the why behind the Studio.

It’s not about finding the right outfit. It’s about discovering what feels aligned—and learning how to recognize that feeling again and again, sometimes with help from other women who are also on a style journey but willing to see us and cheer us on.

Clothes are only part of the story.

The real transformation happens when a woman begins to see herself as God sees her—confident, capable, and called. She begins to trust her instincts, own her choices, and carry herself with quiet assurance. That’s style working from the inside out.
